Statue of Progress, Queen Victoria Memorial
Whether one has visited it or not, everyone has seen the majestic Victoria Memorial in front the world famous Buckingham Palace. The monument was built by Sir Thomas Brock as a celebration of Queen Victoria’s life and reign following her death.
Though it is an iconic structure, I didn’t know about it’s iconography till a couple of years ago.
It has a regal carving of the Queen as the central focus and gilded ‘Winged Victory’ angels on the top.
One of the bronze statues flanking the central structure, is that of Progress - a laurel crowned youth holding a flaming torch alongside a lion. The other statues around the memorial are that of Constancy, Courage, Peace, Truth and Justice.
The London Collection
“In London, everyone is different, and that means anyone can fit in” ~ Paddington Bear.
Add to that - the streets, the sights, the sounds, the art, the architecture… I feel so lucky to call this wonderful city my home.
London is a walking city - organic and full of unexpected lanes and walkways. I have tried to capture the essence of the city during my walks through sketches and snapshots over time. These have been the inspiration of my London Collection.
